February 2026
February 12th: Carpenters Estate CPD
Having long used the Carpenters Estate for Stratford fieldwork (blogged about here and here), I’ve worked with Populo Living to organise a free teacher CPD event to learn all about what’s happening at the estate and when.
To join us at the end of February, please sign up here- there are limited spaces because of the capacity of the community centre so please ensure you can attend before booking!
February 4th: How do we select case studies and represent places in geography? Upcoming seminar
I’m really looking forward to speaking at this seminar, hosted by Alex Standish, on 12th March at the Institute of Education, London.
Ramya Rajkumar and I will be exploring how we best teach and represent place in our geography curriculums and, given it’s an area I’ve been giving a lot of thought, I’m really looking forward to this!

At the end of this month I’m joining the Pearson Geography team for a webinar to share ideas, thoughts and perspectives on future qualifications and what these might look like.

February 1st: Finally reading The World Ahead 2026 publication from The Economist
As the photo (featuring an obligatory Pret coffee cup!) for this month’s blog suggests, the start of February saw me finally have the time to digest The World Ahead 2026 publication from The Economist. If you follow me on Twitter or have read the blogs in the A-Level geography section of this website, you’ll know that I am a very loyal fan of The Economist and consider it invaluable for my A-Level teaching. This report had sat on the shelf since before Christmas but I finally delved into it and what a goldmine it was!
Articles have been added to my ‘Best Bits for teaching Superpowers’ blog but for ease, I’ve listed them here too:
7.3ab: This article about how India’s poverty persists despite its recent economic growth.
7.7a: This article for extra reading about how the Arctic will become increasingly connected to the global economy.
7.8a: This article for how Africa has increasingly looked east as a result of Western aid cuts
