October 15th: Superpowers webinar for Cooper Education
It’s been a busy couple of weeks with two webinars delivered for Cooper Education- one on how I’m teaching the 2016 Globalisation spec in the world of 2025 and another on teaching the 2016 Superpowers spec in 2025. Both webinars were jam-packed with resources, ideas and tips and tricks for teaching these human geography topics and I’m really grateful for all there positive feedback received.

My next webinars with Cooper Education are:
January 2026: One hour webinar on how I teach EQ3 and EQ4 of Edexcel Geography Regenerating Places.
February 2026: One hour webinar on how I teach EQ3 and EQ4 of Edexcel Geography Migration, Identity and Sovereignty.

October 12th: A geographical read and listen
It’s not one that will end up on the (blog) Bookshelf but I enjoyed reading Your Life is Manufactured having seen it on Alan Parkinson’s LivingGeography blog. Although not directly related to what we teach, it was a very interesting read that certainly broadened and deepened by wider subject-knowledge. I had seen that BBC Radio 4 ‘Start The Week’ had done a podcast on the book and its key themes and enjoyed listening to that too.

October 1st: RGS School Member Lecture
The start of October saw me return to the RGS with students and staff from across our Trust to attend the first School Member Lecture of the year. The lecture was given by Danny Dorling and was, predictably, a thought-provoking and informative session all about inequality in the UK and how it’s changed over time.

Whilst the lecture itself was very interesting, it’s also invaluable to take students to the RGS and allow them to experience a lecture-setting in a building such as that, ahead of any future university applications. We’re looking forward to the next one- details can be found here.
