26th June: Kate Raworth and Doughnut Economics on the Radical Podcast
‘Radical’ with Amol Rajan is another podcast that I subscribe to and often seek out the most geographical of episodes to enjoy. Recently, Kate Raworth joined to discuss Doughnut Economics and how we need to end the pursuit of endless growth. I haven’t actually read Doughnut Economics but really enjoyed this podcast and how the concept challenges our assumptions about endless GDP growth and what this means for our economies, societies and planet. I’d recommend that all geographers listen!

1st June: The GA’s National Festival of Fieldwork
And, just like that, another June has swung around and it’s once again time for the GA’s National Festival of Fieldwork. This time of year always sees me out and about doing lots of fieldwork in my current role as Trust Lead for Geography across a MAT of 8 schools. However, seeing all of the posts and ideas about fieldwork to align with the GA’s campaign also makes me reflect on fieldwork more broadly and I was struck by how geographical the scene below was, when passing through. The more I look at this photo, the more geography I see. Naturally, I was left pondering how we best develop this ability to ‘think like a geographer’ in our students. How do we nurture their ability to unpack a landscape like this, through an inherently geographical lens? How do we utilise fieldwork as a key way of doing this?
