June 26th: Resources with London National Park City
After working on these for a while, it is fab to see them go live! This first set of education resources from the London National Park City organisation is 5 fact files about projects taking place within the city to make London greener, healthier and wilder. Designed to be used with classes exploring urban greening, sustainable flood management, & much more, we’re looking forward to seeing how they are used in classrooms from Key Stage 3 upwards- please do share their use with us!

June 12th: A cheatsheet for supporting fieldwork
The month of June always means lots of fieldwork for me in my Trust Lead role with frequent visits to the River Chess and Stratford. This year, I’m also working on resources for urban fieldwork for our school in Stevenage. This school often uses non-specialists to support with fieldwork and over time I’ve learnt the value of a ‘cheat sheet’ of the key points to highlight to students as they’re completing their fieldwork. This cheat sheet is very stripped back and so does lack the nuance that specialists / someone who has done the trip before might bring but I’m hoping it’ll help those who are new to supporting with the fieldwork be more confident in guiding the observations (and conversations) of students.
June 1st: The National Festival of Fieldwork
And here it is again: the GA’s National Festival of Fieldwork. It’s a month where lots of us will be out and about doing fieldwork anyway (gained time, what’s that?) but the GA’s campaign to promote high-quality fieldwork in all geography curriculums certainly helps to ensure we’re continually reflecting on, and refining, our fieldwork offerings.
I’ve shared most of the fieldwork I’ve done here in my quest to help teachers who, like I was early on in my career, might be very daunted by the prospect of fieldwork. I alway advocate for an on-site fieldwork investigation at KS3, Stratford and the River Chess for GCSE fieldwork are my current most-visited and I LOVED our recent A-Level fieldwork to Battersea Power Station- all blogged about somewhere on this site!
